Tonight on SportsCenter, Peter Gammons said the Cubs are not quite out of the Jake Peavy sweepsteaks, which Lou said they were. He said the Cubs are looking to work out a 3-way deal between the Padres, Cubs, and Orioles.
Gammons also said the Cubs may be looking towards Bobby Abreu to fill the right field spot.
The Cubs continue to state that few changes will be made during the winter meeting, which open up next week in Las Vegas.
On a sad note...Henry Blanco's brother was found shot dead in Venezuela. Police are treating the death as a kidnapping/murder. The older brother was reportedly being held at ransom for $200 million. Henry was in the process of negotiating with the kidnappers.
Henry is currently playing winter ball in Venezueula

Every team always down plays potential off season moves. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Peavy pitching on the North Side of Chicago next season.
This is going to be a very interesting week. The winter meetings always produce a couple of blockbuster deals. Last year the Tigers and Marlins had a huge one. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an even bigger deal this offseason.
I don't know if the Cubs really need Peavy. He's more of a luxury than a necessity. They already have a solid starting pitching staff (Dempster, Zambrano, Harden, Lilly). They need to tighten up the bullpen and get change the lineup around because obviously the players on the roster do not perform in the postseason.
I'm not a big fan of Abreu in right field though. He's getting old and slow and isn't the same hitter he was a few years ago.
